With no names or egos and just passion and a love for
Professional
Wrestling, The New York Wrestling Connection
(NYWC) was born. The NYWC
Training Academy was opened in
2003 and started running shows in Deer Park, NY later that
year. In the beginning these shows were made up of the
NYWC students and
other hungry athletes from the northeast.
These athletes were fortunate to
be under the tutelage of
wrestlers who came from great wrestling schools
such as
Founder/Co-Owner John Curse from ECW's House of Hardcore and
Crusher
Doogan from Dean Malenko's Wrestling Academy in
Tampa, Fl.
As the months went by the buzz about the
NYWC grew into an explosion in June 2004 when ECW Triple Crown
Winner Mikey Whipwreck arrived . With Mikey on board it was
time for the NYWC to take things to a new level. In the months
and years to follow, wrestlers
like Al Snow, Marty
Jannetty, Danny Doring, Chris Chetti, Mick Foley, Tommy
Dreamer, Jerry Lynn, Spike Dudley, the Dudley Boyz, Matt
Striker, Ultimo
Dragon, Roadkill, Nunzio, Joey Mercury,
Nick "Eugene" Dinsmore, Luke
Williams, Dave Taylor, and
Terry Funk would make their presence felt in the
NYWC.
Mikey and these special guests helped to elevate the younger
talent
and teach them valuable lessons that would help
bring them to the "Big
Stage". That "Big Stage" would be
the WWE.
The first home grown talent to leave the NYWC
and go to the WWE was Mike "Livewyre"
Mondo. Mondo became
Mikey from the Spirit Squad and cheered his way to the
tag
team titles. The next to follow in Mondo's footsteps were
Brett
Matthews and Brian Myers. Renamed The Majors Brothers
these two young
athletes made a name for themselves and it
wouldn't be long before they
stood side by side with the
Rated R Superstar Edge. A new alliance brought
new names
yet again for Brett and Brian, and Zack Ryder and Curt Hawkins
were born. These two talented competitors would do the same as
Mondo and win
WWE tag team gold. Next to make the move to
the WWE was Plazma. Plazma is
now turning heads and
training hard down in WWE's developmental territory
Florida
Championship Wrestling (FCW). As a major part of FCW Plazma
was renamed
Trent Barretta and continues to follow in the
footsteps of his NYWC brothers
Mondo, Matthews and Myers.
In 2009 the NYWC took their game to the next level in many
ways. They
kicked off the new year with a bang when they
opened the brand new 5000 sq.
foot NYWC Sportatorium.
Months later they debuted at the Elks Lodge in Port Jefferson
Station.
The following month the NYWC teamed up the with
the Luis
Jimenez
Show to film an episode for Univision's EL TV Show
titled "Gran Lucha
Latina", which will air later this year.
That same month NYWC announced that
they will be running in
Woodside, Queens. The NYWC continues to grow day by
day and
year by year. This growth was possible because of a great
foundation
that was built by passionate athletes such as
Tyler Payne, Dickie Rodz,
Mason Raige, Dan Barry, Spyder,
Tony Burma, Ru Starr and Nuke, and continues
to grow as new
stars are born.
Only time will tell what's next for the
NYWC, but if history is any
indication, it looks like the
sky's the limit.
